Stump Removal

Stump Removal & Stump Grinding Service In Oakville

Perhaps you’ve called us, or another arborist team to remove a tree and are now looking at the stump and deciding that it too has to go. Or perhaps you’ve simply inherited or even discovered low cut stumps from years ago which have been fine up until now but which currently stand in the way of your new land usage or building project. Stumps can be really low cut, nearly flush with the ground and yet still be a real hazard either in a minor way as a trip hazard or as nature’s own dragon's teeth tank traps just waiting to rip the sump out of autos unwise enough to drive over them. We get it, and we have ways of getting rid of that stump for you. So call us now.

Stump Rot

Without the tree to supply all that life support from leaves and sap the stump and roots will start the decomposition process. While that’s normally fine and the stump will gently rot back into the soil it sometimes goes wrong and the stump becomes a home for disease or parasites that then attack living trees or platnts in the yard. Termites and carpenter ants may make their home in the old stumps and operate from them as bases. If you think that’s happening to the stump or stumps in your yard then it’s time to call us in to remove the stump.

Stump Grinding

The quickest way to get rid of that unwanted stump is by grinding. A stump grinder is a power tool with rotating teeth that chews down through the stump and reduces it to wood chips that can be collected or reused as mulch in the yard. The good news is that it is fast and simple, which means less time and labor and of course that means less cost for you. Plus it doesn’t leave a hole like a bomb crater in your lawn when we’re done. The bad news is that it doesn’t remove the roots and they can both be a physical hazard to nearby installations and plants as well as a biohazard if they are diseased or turning moldy.

Stump Removal

Full stump removal means hauling the entire stump and its immediate root structure out of the ground with a mechanical backhoe or digger. The bad news is that it takes more work to remove a stump and leaves a crater. The good news is that the ground is now ready for replanting straight away.

Root Removal

Usually stump removal is all that you need to do but sometimes those roots also have to go. As well as the removal process pointed spades and root cutters may also be used to chop out wider spreading roots extending away from the stump. Just how far out we chase the roots depends a lot on the type of tree but also what you then plan to do with the yard space. There are also chemical treatments to deal with some roots so ask for an assessment of your needs and our solutions.
